Effective Treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Oral appliances advance the lower jar and open the airway during sleep. They are also referred to as oral mandibular advancement devices. Studies have shown oral appliances to significantly reduce AHI for mild, moderate and severe cases of obstructive sleep apnea and are widely accepted as an alternative to CPAP.

Patients with OSA are evaluated to determine if they are candidates for therapy. A focused exam and health history are part of the initial evaluation to determine the best course of treatment. Dr. Burton is experienced in taking accurate impressions to ensure proper fabrication and fitting of each custom appliance. Our office follows the patient after the appliance is delivered by evaluating symptoms associated with sleep disordered breathing and making a series of adjustments to titrate the advancement of the device to an optimal position.
